Voting, hung parliaments and innuendo

In response to the last post about political apathy - there is a way to register your disgust with the existing political parties on the ballot box that will definitely get you noticed. its a none of the above box or otherwise called 'reopen nominations' (RON). Seeing as though we have already voted, I'll remind you again in four years time.

We have a hung parliament. The well-read will know that we havent had one since 1974 when the Liberal democrats negotiated for electoral reform but were rejected by the Tories. might the same happen again? This also highlights the length of time that the Liberal democrats have campaigned for a change in the voting system. Talk about dedication.

Itys good to see people are talking about politics again. I watched a tv debating show today where this old lady got up and demanded a more proportional system. I never though I would see that day where a daytime TV show would be discussing the merits of the first-past-the-post system! Feels like I studied politics a few years too early. It seems many people have only just realised how disproportionate the system was and are genuinely indignant.

Wait until they find out how much power the Queen has.

With the Lib Dems and the Tories currently negotiating a deal, It will be a long time before this country will get back on its feet, regardless of which party(s) take power. Our country has been taken back to the economic woes and shaky government of the 70s, but without the funk soundtrack. permission to jump ship?

THE VOTE

Hello, I guess the main political talking point at the moment is the election, something I feel profoundly unstimulated by. From a distance here in Spain it seems that the difference between the main parties is minimal, and what with all the Tory rhetoric of so called 'change' it seems abundantly obvious the whole thing is a sham.

I'd like to see what people think about this, because a lot of people I know say that if you don't vote you have no right to complain about the system. I want to feel that I can express political and social thoughts and convert them into actions in a more direct way than sticking a cross next to someone's name in a box. That said I recognise the danger of apathy because it can let extreme groups get in. It'd be great to hear from anyone with any enlightened thoughts on this subject,

Peace

Music is the Weapon
Right, well I'm guessing that to begin with they'll probably only be two people who will read this, both by the name of Pete :) I should say then that you guys are a great inspiration and I hope you use this blog to publish your thoughts and opinions. I'll try and do the same...

Until then, long live the menx,

Adios
